WHAT IS SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE (SOD)?
Free radicals are naturally produced by our bodies when exposed to harmful environmental toxins such as cigarette smoke, pollution, household chemicals and highly processed foods. These free radicals can cause damage to our cells in a process known as “oxidative stress”.
One free radical created in the body is called “Superoxide”. To minimise the damage caused by this free radical, our bodies produce an enzyme called “superoxide dismutase”. However, studies show that this enzyme may not work as efficiently in those that have a particular genetic variant.
We have formulated SOD Plus to help support the body in transforming the dangerous “superoxide” radical into neutral molecules that are not harmful to cells. Our formula contains the minerals manganese, zinc and copper, which contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and act as precursors to the SOD variations.
High levels of the superoxide radical can disrupt the production of glutathione, which is often referred to as the body’s “master antioxidant”. For this reason, we have incorporated l-glutathione in our formulation.
Finally, we have added n-acetyl-l-cysteine, which can help increase glutathione levels throughout the body.
